Therapy with Jessie
Welcome! My name is Jessie Kaleikau (she/her). I grew up on the only Native reservation in Alaska and am Alaskan Native/Pacific Islander. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Oregon and Alaska, and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Washington. As a therapist, it is my job to walk alongside you throughout your journey. As a survivor of trauma, myself, I understand first-hand how it feels to be stuck in a cycle of hopelessness and how being in a dark place can feel paralyzing. I am here to sit with you, and we can work together to strengthen your resilience as well as developing tools to get through difficult times.
My background in mental health started on my Native reserve. I have worked in the mental health field for over 10 years and have experience working with people of color, LGBTQIA+ folks, and individuals and families who experienced generational trauma, anxiety, depression, life stressors, abuse, as well as domestic and sexual assault survivors. I also have experience working with teenagers and families in school districts and in a non-profit. Working in non-traditional clinical settings helped me learn more about the systems around us and the direct and indirect impact they have on us. I recognize that mental health is intersectional and incorporate that into my practice as well. As a woman of color, I understand how we are influenced and affected by relationships, institutions, and systems around us.
I specialize in working with teenagers (12+) and adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, life stressors, relational issues, and individuals who have experienced trauma, abuse, as well as domestic violence, and sexual assault survivors. People who I work with often discuss struggling with maintaining motivation, struggling with perfectionism, or feeling stuck in overwhelming emotions. I use narrative therapy with a trauma-informed and person-centered approach to help you feel unstuck. Using trauma-informed care means that I have an understanding of how trauma can impact you, your worldview, and your relationships with others. Narrative therapy looks at what is your story, who you are, and how you would like to change this chapter in your life. Together we can rewrite your story to help you find your sense of self and confidence to reach your goals. In addition to talk therapy, I also am trained in EMDR. In the therapy room I allow you to lead because you know yourself better than I do and you have the power to change your story.
